Active winter weather returns to the region this weekend. A moist Pacific storm system will bring light snow to the region tonight before a second round of heavier precipitation Sunday afternoon into Sunday night. This storm will bring accumulating snow followed by a messy wintry mix of precipitation to much of the Eastern Columbia Basin by Sunday afternoon and evening.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS…2 TO 5 INCHES ALONG AND NORTH OF INTERSTATE
90 WITH LOCAL AMOUNTS UP TO 6 INCHES POSSIBLE COEUR D`ALENE
AREA. 1 TO 3 INCHES PALOUSE…UP TO 1 INCH
LEWISTON…CLARKSTON…AND POMEROY AREAS. FOR THE BLUE MOUNTAINS AND
CAMAS PRAIRIE 1 TO 2 INCHES THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING…WITH A
SECOND ROUND OF SNOW OF 2 TO 4 INCHES MONDAY MORNING.

* TIMING…LIGHT SNOW WILL CONTINUE TO OVERSPREAD THE REGION THIS
AFTERNOON AND EVENING BEFORE BEGINNING TO TAPER OFF LATE
TONIGHT. A ROUND OF MODERATE TO LOCALLY HEAVY PRECIPITATION WILL
ARRIVE SUNDAY AFTERNOON INTO SUNDAY NIGHT. PRECIPITATION WITH
THIS ROUND WILL FALL AS MAINLY SNOW NORTH OF INTERSTATE 90. FREEZING
RAIN IS EXPECTED ON INTERSTATE 90 AROUND THE RITZVILLE
AREA…AND HIGHWAY 395 FROM RITZVILLE TO CONNELL. FOR MOST OF
SOUTHEAST WASHINGTON AS WELL AS THE LEWISTON AREA AND PALOUSE
THE BULK OF THE PRECIPITATION SUNDAY AFTERNOON AND NIGHT WILL
FALL AS RAIN ALTHOUGH POCKETS OF FREEZING RAIN ARE
POSSIBLE…CHANGING TO SNOW MONDAY MORNING ABOVE 2000 FEET.

* IMPACTS…SNOW COVERED ROADS COUPLED WITH A WINTRY MIX OF RAIN
AND FREEZING RAIN WILL MAKE DIFFICULT AND SLIPPERY DRIVING
CONDITIONS. FREEZING RAIN GLAZING SURFACES WILL MAKE WALKING
HAZARDOUS.
